AliperTherapeutics wins the fifth edition

At the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano, the final of the fifth edition took place. Among the finalists, AliperTharapeutics, a start-up created as a spinoff of the Institute for Research in Oncology (IOR) in Bellinzona with the aim of developing pharmacological treatments for prostate cancer, won the first prize from the national jury. The audience prize was instead awarded to Revozona, which also won fifth place from the jury. Using a special ozone gas process to clean raw fabrics, it saves 90% in CO2 emissions and water use and reduces the use of energy and chemicals by 40%. In second place was AQUAtryp®, in third place ZARIO, and in fourth place GiPSy, which also won a special prize from Hemargroup. The Agire Foundation awarded its desks at the Tecnopolo Ticino, for one year, to FormidAbile, Revozona and Zario.

Announced the 10 finalists

The regional jury of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge has selected the ten finalists who will present their innovative projects at the Award Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, December 13th at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano.
The fifth edition of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge is coming to an end. The acceleration program that kicked off on September 1st has provided twenty selected innovative projects with an opportunity to develop and improve their initial idea thanks to five workshops and numerous coaching hours. On Wednesday, November 30th, the regional jury reunited at the West Campus of Uiversità della Svizzera italiana to evaluate the participating projects and select the ten finalists that will be on stage on December 13th.

The regional jury, co-chaired by Giambattista Ravano (President at Data and System Planning SA, former Director of Research, Development and Knowledge Transfer at SUPSI) and Michele Merazzi (Deputy Director at Chamber of Commerce of the Canton of Ticino) and composed of Thomas Billeter (Member of the Executive Board and Ticino Chapter Director at SICTIC), Riccardo Braglia (Chairman of the Board at Helsinn Group), Gianluca Colombo (Dean of the Faculty of Economics at USI and Director of the USI Executive MBA), Guy Giuffredi (Investment Director at Serpentine Ventures), Luca Mascaro (Founder and CEO at Sketchin), Jacqueline Ruedin Rüsch (Founding Partner at Privilège Ventures SA) and Daina Matise Schubiger (lecturer-researcher Centre for Management Skills and Entrepreneurship at SUPSI), examined the submitted documentation and listened to the pitch of each of the project teams, to then assess them based on the pre-established criteria.

The finalists will present their projects at the Award Ceremony on December 13th 2022, starting from 18:30, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. The five main prizes of the competition are awarded by a national jury, while the sixth prize is assigned by the public voting conducted among more than 600 attendees expected at the Palazzo dei Congressi.

To participate in the award ceremony – an evening dedicated to innovation in the Canton of Ticino featuring a keynote from a special guest – it is required to register by December 4, 2022 by filling out the form available here.

Join the 2022 Awards Ceremony!

On Tuesday, December 13, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano will host the Awards Ceremony of the fifth edition of our accelerator program.

The ten finalist teams, selected by the Regional Jury (whose vote is expected on November 30), will present their projects to win one of five cash prizes, determined by a National Jury, to which will be added the prize awarded by the audience attending the event and other in-kind prizes.

After the official opening of the evening, featuring a speech by State Councillor Christian Vitta, the ten finalist projects will be called onto the stage for a final pitch and will compete for the prize awarded by the “popular jury” consisting of more than 500 spectators attending the event.

This will be followed by the awards ceremony and an aperitif which will conclude the evening giving spectators and competitors the opportunity to interact in an informal setting.

The 5th edition kicks off!

The traditional Kick off Meeting, held on Thursday 1st September, officially opened the 5th edition of our accelerator for young startups. In the presence of our coaches and staff, the 20 selected teams were able to pitch for the first time their project, which they will develop during the three-month acceleration program.

For the 2022 edition a total of 128 applications were registered, 67 of which were eligible for selection according to the admission regulations. Confirming Boldbrain’s horizontal positioning, open to any type of innovation, the projects presented by the teams can be allocated to many of the main innovative economic sectors homogeneously, among which fintech, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and the biotech/medtech sector stand out.

Registrations for the 5th edition open today

Applications for the 5th edition of the Boldbrain Startup Challenge are now open. The accelerator is intended for startups or early-stage ideas, of an innovative nature, regardless of the sector of activity. Applications from abroad are admitted provided that the promoters intend to develop their idea in Ticino. Applications for the program can be submitted until July 15th, 11.50 PM. INKVIVO WINS THE 4TH EDITION OF BOLDBRAIN

The final of the fourth edition took place in the setting of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. Among the finalists, InkVivo won the national jury prize, a project in the medtech field that is developing new devices to locally limit and reduce postoperative pain. The audience award was instead won by Arcadia, which also earned the fifth place of the jury, a revolutionary process thanks to which the materials are transformed and recycled for a new use. Second place went to Pepper.Zone, third talent4gig, fourth Dolcepack. The special Hemargroup prizes were awarded to Ethafa and motuSML while the Agire Foundation disbursed its new award, which consists of a desk at the Tecnopolo Ticino for 1 year, to the Ethafa, Pepper and Lealty teams.

Join the 2021 Award Ceremony!

On Thursday, December 2, starting at 6:30 pm, the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano will host the Award Ceremony of the 2021 edition of our acceleration program.

The ten finalist teams, selected by the Regional Jury (whose vote is expected for November 19), will present their projects to win one of the five final prizes plus the special prize awarded by the audience, for a total amount of 200’000 Swiss francs.

After the official opening of the evening, featuring a speech by State Councillor Christian Vitta, the ten finalist projects will be called onto the stage for a final pitch and will compete for the prize awarded by the “popular jury” consisting of more than 500 spectators attending the event.

While waiting for the outcome of the vote, the renowned entrepreneur Matteo Boffa – recently included by Forbes in the prestigious list of the 30 best U30 entrepreneurs in the Middle East – will join the event from Dubai. This will be followed by the awards ceremony, during which prizes will be handed out for the top five winners and the special prize from the public. Finally, an aperitif will conclude the evening giving spectators and competitors the opportunity to interact in an informal setting.
